National Celebrations
The programme of national celebrations includes important infrastructural works and a calendar of initiatives throughout the Italian territory, particularly in the cities that played a key role in the unity process, including Torino – the first capital city – and Piedmont.
The national symbol of the 150th anniversary are three tricolour flags that represent the three jubilees of the Nation (that is the 1911, 1961 and 2011 anniversaries).
The projects and initiatives planning as well as their organisation have been given to a special Interdepartmental Board, chaired by the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Activities and formed by the Ministers of Economy and Finance, Infrastructure and Transports, Education, University and Research, Defence, Economic Development, Relations with the Regions, and Tourism. The Undersecretary of the Council Presidency, the Secretary of the Council of Ministers and the General Secretary of the Council Presidency are also part of the Board.
Along with the Interdepartmental Board, the Technical Unit of Mission, working at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and a Committe of Guarantors, have the task to supervise the programme of the initiatives, chaired by Professor Giuliano Amato and formed by Giovanni Allevi, Vittorio Bo, Roberto Bolle, Marta Boneschi, Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, Pierluigi Ciocca, Valeria Della Valle, Louis Godart, Ugo Gregoretti, Francesco Margiotta Broglio, Alberto Melloni, Claudio Martelli, Giovanni Sabbatucci, Andrea Riccardi, Gianni Toniolo.
During the Interdepartmental Board meeting on 16th January 2009, the Committee of Guarantors was integrated by also including Elena Aga Rossi, Walter Barberis, Simona Colarizi, Piero Craveri, Pasquale De Lise, Ernesto Galli della Loggia, Andrea Giardina, Lorenzo Ornaghi, Francesco Perfetti, Roberto Pertici, Giovanni Tassani, Marcello Veneziani.
Five of them participate in Esperienza Italia (the project designed and implemented by Comitato Italia 150) as curators: Walter Barberis, Vittorio Bo, Piero Craveri, Gustavo Zagrebelsky.
