1900 - 1961 Italian Art in Guggenheim Collections
Spazio Arca
Arca is an exhibit area which is partly located in the central nave of the Church of St. Marc in Vercelli. It is composed of two parts: the first is provided with all the technologies ensuring the international stadndard for the display of works of art; the second is formed by the aisles and the apse and is dedicated to related or independent events; the outdoor area is configured as a laboratory for the restauration of frescos.
Since its opening, Arca housed several prestigious exhibitions about contemporary art, architectura, design and sport, as well as the exhibitions realized thanks to the contribution of Guggenheim Foundation.
From February 26 to June 5 2011 Arca is housing the exhibition 1900 - 1961 Italian Art in Guggenheim Collections: a tribute to the 20th century Italian art, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification, through a choice of masterpieces from the collections of the great American patrons. Among the artists being displayed, Alberto Burri, Lucio Fontana, Giorgio Morandi, Filippo De Pisis, Arturo Tosi, Amedeo Modigliani, Arnaldo Pomodoro and Mario Sironi. The last part of the path – going backwards from 1961 to the beginning of the century – is dedicated to Futurism, a movement that, since its birth, soon captured the attention of public and private American: works by Medardo Rosso, Gaetano Previati and Adolfo Wildt, as well as the great names Giacomo Balla and Umberto Boccioni.
