Provincia di Torino
2011: RISORGIMENTO ROUTES
11 routes to discover Risorgimento in the Province of Turin, to explore public and private buildings, tombstones and inscriptions, relics, streets and squares where some major events of our history took place.
More than 60 sites distributed in 40 municipalities, from the Canavese to the Pinorelese area, from Lanzo valleys to Turin hills, the “2011 routes” were individuated by a research committed to Silvia Cavicchioli by the Province of Turin. They will be opened in the coming months and they follow like a common thread some engaging and legendary stories, tracing the military and social, industrial and literary history that led to the Italian Unification.
THE PROJECT
This project was born on the occasion of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification, in order to contribute to the promotion of a common heritage in the province through the promotion of knowledge.
It is open to citizens and tourists, teachers and students and is aimed to retrace the history of the 19th century, closely intertwined with the territorial and local general one.
The routes are divided according to eleven thematic areas: politics, institutions, economics, social area, culture, religion and military area. The identification of a limited number of sites, with symbolic and exemplar purposes and values, was made of course through of venues considered to be representative and emblematic of each thematic area.
The definition of “site” that has been adopted is broad and diversified: not only public and private buildings, monuments, tombstones, inscriptions, relics, documents, paintings, streets and squares, but also the theatres of the main events during the 19th century and the process of Unification.
Thus these sites include, in addition to the major historical events, also historical characters, institutions, scientific discoveries, factories, infrastructure and so on: what defines and gives a shape to the sites is above all the historical event related to the history of our country.
