Parco Dora
Parco Dora
Thanks to the funding of the Italian Government and the City of Torino, in 2011 the inhabitants of Torino will have a new park. The project, which is part of the national infrastructural plan for the 150th anniversary celebrations, will be implemented along the river Dora, where heavy industry factories stood until a few decades ago.
In the last years the district has undergone a strong transforming intervention that has reconverted the industrial areas into residential buildings, shopping areas and services for the citizens.
The new Parco Dora will complete the metamorphosis of this area. It will offer 450,000 square metres of green for leisure, sport and entarteinment to the residents as well as all the citizens and the tourists, and it will give them back their river which had been exploited, degradated and made inaccessible by the factories.
However, the park will keep the memory of the industrial past of this city district alive, by keeping some of the pre-existing structures (tanks, steel pillars, smokestacks).
